For Rick, life with Optune isn’t just about wearing the device – it’s about making the most of the moments without it. He has embraced Optune as part of his journey with glioblastoma, but he also treasures the freedom that comes when he takes a break.
“There are pics of me not wearing Optune – because I feel that an important part of getting the most out of this incredible treatment is what you do without it,” he explains. “I run – and the joy of doing so without 7kg on my back makes me feel like I’m flying.”
Rick has adapted Optune to his lifestyle, even taking it with him on trips abroad. One of his photos shows him floating in a pool in Greece, his device safely tucked inside a Novocure medical waste bag to keep it dry.
But beyond the practical adjustments, Optune has changed something deeper for him – his outlook on life.
“Getting a GBM diagnosis, for me, felt – for a time – like I was on borrowed time. I could feel my life slipping through my fingers like sand. Putting Optune on stopped that instantly. It changed the way I felt about life and my future.”
Rick’s gratitude for Optune is clear, as is his admiration for the people working to make it accessible to more patients.
His story is a testament to resilience – not just in facing the challenges of treatment, but in continuing to run, travel and embrace the moments that make life meaningful.
Thank you to Rick for sharing his story.
